    New Medal authorized...

For the sons of the Pepsi Generation, who fight America's battles during thier "shift" from air conditioned trailers in the combat zones of war-torn Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, rented offices in Crystal City Virginia, and other assorted military hell-holes is the new dangly-sparkly COMBAT medal!

    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/0...ars-87595.html

yes my brother warriors, Obama's drone-drivers (not satisfied with the same leather jacket worn by aircrewmen) and computer virus scanners are now entitled to earn the DISTINGUISHED WARFARE medal that ranks between the Bronze and Silver Star...pause just a moment and let that sink in.

read the article. shake your head. be proud of what you've earned back in "the day..." and remember when "things were tough."

I can hardly wait for that action-packed war movie to come out starring David Spade.

Very good and got to admit that I didn't look at it in that way! I gave up on the politics of medals when management tried to give the officer in charge of the orderly room a Bronze Star with out the V for keeping the office open during the '68 Tet offensive.

I agree with them. This new medal stems from the currant bleeding heart concerns about folks getting their feelings hurt & feeling left out. Maybe a marksmanship medal would be in order.

Guys, I apologize, I didn't realize that this was already being discussed on the general board. I came here first.

Mustang, you bring up a point--it's a good thing they excluded "valor" from the requirement otherwise some snot-nosed kid will expect a Bronze V on his medal every time he sees the bad guys backspace--because he can't think of the word "retreat."

....and the right to bear arms can't be infringed upon, either. BTW, if you are deemed a terrorist and are killed by D.H.S. who's gonna report it?

"Critics have panned it as the "Chair-borne Medal," "the Nintendo Medal," "Distant Warfare Medal" and "the Purple Buttocks," alluding to fact that computer-based warriors do their work from a chair, among other names.

    Re: New Medal authorized...

To be honest I don't see much difference in the Cold War medals. I served from 58-61 active - then 61-64 in the active reserves. I am eligible for the NDSM and KDSN, I refused to apply for them simply because I feel they are Medals for showing up and doing nothing more. Several years ago, my 6 and my kids got all the necessary G-2 from my DD-214 and filed for the two medals. They gave them to me, framed, for my birthday. They are now hanging on my "I Love Me" wall. But I still don't feel they are deserved medals.

I saw this article via email the other day. It reinforces the point that a lot of us GI's are making, which is that this new medal has its rank order really far off. http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/2...ed-bronze-star

I've gotten to the point anymore where, if a person has a BS, but it doesn't have a valor device, it means sh*t. Pretty sad, but that's where I'm at, especially after this:

"...Tech. Sgt. Christina Gamez, a financial analyst with the 802nd Comptroller Squadron who received the Bronze Star on March 14 at Joint Base San Antonio.

“Gamez distinguished herself by meritorious achievement as the [noncommissioned officer] in charge during a 365-day deployment, January 2011 to January 2012,” the story said. “While in Afghanistan, she accurately executed operational funds across eight remote bases, providing commanders with flexibility in support of counterinsurgency efforts. Gamez trained 68 operational fund teams, reviewed 34 projects and funded 280 joint acquisition board packages enabling critical base sustainment.”"
