Fred was an older man when he served in Veitnam. My Dad is only 92 and he served as a Corsair Pilot on the Intrepid in WWII! So Fred didn't have to go to Veitnam--he chose to serve a bit longer than most. May God have mercy on all who put themselves in harm's way to defend us and freedom around this old fallen world!

RIP Fred Cherry. Thank you for your Service. You are in a better place now.
There were so many Hero's in Nam. It was a dark era in this Country when Nam Soldiers returned to the U.S. and were treated so badly. When I was in Korea in 1960, I had the pleasure of knowing and serving with a future Nam Hero. His name was Rocky Versace. He was a Plt Ldr in the Bn I served in. Rocky was Paratrooper and me and another Sqd Ldr in the Recon Plt were Paratroopers, the only ones in the Bn... Rocky came over to our Hooch and visited with us several times and we talked about the Airborne. Rocky was captured in Nam and executed for helping other POW's escape. He was awarded the CMO posthumously.
