milder ammo for a 380 Bersa, if there is such a thing.

I bought a Bersa firestorm a few month ago and I also bought a box of 1000rounds of Fiocchi round nose FMJ. I really like how it feels in my hand but I don't like how it hurts when I shoot more than 50 or 100 rounds. I was wondering if it is typical for 380 in this gun or is this Fiocchi ammo particularly snappy. I was hoping to start reloading it at some point but the brass is ejected so far that I can only recover a small portion of what I have shot. I am only interested in target shooting.

I don't think Fiocchi is any hotter than any other brand. Some find the felt recoil is a bit snappy because of the thinness of the grip. Since you apparently don't intend carrying it, you might try the rubber wrap around grips offered by Eagle Imports & Condors Flight. They make the grip a little thicker, plus help cushion the felt recoil.

..........yeah, the rubber grips....and try some Remington UMC or Aquilla. They are kinda low on the recoil end. I am going on memory here!
I have a list of ammo and its reported velocity....unfortunately I can not get to it right now- but will later on this morning.
Fiocchi is definitely hot compared to the rest.

Later today I will post what I have on the list.

Edit: Man was I wrong!.....must have been remembering 9mm? Fiocchi is hot in 9mm....not so in 380.
Lowest I see is Sig Sauer at 910 fps
        then PMC at 920
        Blazer at 945
        Speer, Fiocchi, S&B at 950

Here is a chart I found online- http://www.ballistics101.com/380_acp.php

Recoil is more a function of muzzle energy than velocity. Brojohn, thanks for the chart, it is great. I can't believe the range of energies shown there.

That is quite a wide range! I will make sure to stay away from RBCD Ammunitions at 337 ft/lbs and 1835 ft/ps. I really like how the grip feels out of the box but I might have to try the rubber ones.

I'm looking at the websites but I'm not seeing grips that might work. The so called wrap around grips go around the front but leave the back metal frame exposed, it seems like the rubber should cover that part if we want to minimize recoil.

Grips around the front is the only way they are made, but they will cushion the felt recoil. The walnut grips will also help, merely because of thicker grip.

The LC380 has very sharp points all over the grip so I put a Hogue wrap-around grip on it. Yes it is shortin the back but works great.

One smart move staying away from RBCD, A lawsuit now on a KABOOM in a Glock. I think using the words bimetal is also false advertising. There are no bimetal bullets in their line. When questioned they say it's a trademark only.

Once you get into reloading you can load some powder puff loads, working down until the slide doesn't cycle then go to the load just above that one. I have some light ones that cycle the slide but only clock about 650 fps.

Also, inexpensive rubber grips can be cut from a bicycle inner tube and slid over the BT factory grips.

I ordered a Hodge rubber grip that wraps all around , we'll see if it helps. I'm going to look around in the reloading section of this forum to see what powder puff load I might find. Out of 600 rounds shot I only recovered about 100 cases. It must be ejecting forward past the bench toward the targets where I can't go.
