    Pretty Bullets

Just received 500 ea. 180 gr., .45 ACP, Badman Bullets. Double powder coated. I weighed and measured a few of them and they hold true to spec.

I am working up 3 loads with two powders. Red Dot and Trail Boss.

I will review here when I test them.

The group results, 10 yards, 30 feet,
arm rested on a sand bag. Our range ransom rest was missing. And I had coffee.

Firearm, Dan Wesson, 4.25" barrel, combat bobtail commander.

    10 shots

    Trail Boss OAL 1.19"

4.0 gr. 1.5" NO GO, 2 failures to go into battery.

    4.5 gr. 1.25"

    4.8 gr. 1.00"

    Red Dot OAL 1.19"

    4.5 gr. 1.25"

    4.8 gr. 1.50"

    5 gr. 1.35"

Notes: RD is cleaner than TB, less smoke, less smell too.

Cleaning of lead from the barrel, NONE.

Next test will be a chronograph between the two heaviest loads in each powder. 4.8 gr. TB and 5 gr. RD

See photo, not cleaned, the barrel has no lead build up.

    Firearm DW, CBOB

    UPDATE: Chronograph test 1-22-18

NOTE: Mixed Brasss, Mixed Primers. This has an impact on the results below.

Red Dot 10 shot string, charge 5gr.

    Average FPS 908
    Extreme Spread FPS 64.5
    High FPS 932
    Low FPS 868
    Standard Deviation 20.9
    Power Factor 163.4

Trail Boss 10 shot string, Charge 4.8gr. Max. to the bottom of the bullet.

    Average FPS 767
    Extreme Spread FPS 53.2
    High FPS 791
    Low FPS 738
    Standard Deviation 19.5
    Power Factor 138

Note:This is the reason not to compress Trail Boss.
unlike normal powder, TB looks like donuts. If you compress them they break up thus changing the burn rate.

Polycoats are nice on barrels. Are you thinking about 5 grains of Trail Boss, RC?

I had that on my loading list but no go. 5 gr. would compress breaking down the powder and change its burn rate. I could back off the OAL but I want to stay with 1.19"

So it came out 4.8 gr. TB just touched the Bullet base.

              I do have a 5gr. RD load.

Looks like what my local reloader uses now.
The .380 reloads I have gotten from him a year or more ago had a gold colored coating.
The .357sig I just got about a month ago are like those....
