Another fng looking for a mag for his 383

    Hi folks -
My lady friend has had this pistol for over 20 years (without firing), and I'd like to take it out to play. I did a quick field strip to clean and lube, and it doesn't look like it's had much traffic through it. But she has only one magazine. So, I do have one - I feel fortunate after reading about 30 threads going back to 2011 that all talk about how there aren't any out there - but I really would like at least one more. I've done a fair bit of googling, and even found one site that had three listed - but when I called they had sold them. No one else seems to have them at any price.

I've managed to figure out (from what I've read on here - thank you very much) that a magazine from a model 97 would work - but those are as rare as the ones for a 383. Any help on that end would be appreciated.

BTW - if anyone has any advice on field stripping things to watch for that might be unique to this pistol, I'd be grateful to hear about it. It was pretty simple to get apart to clean - and went back together very easily.

    thanks folks.

    Welcome to Bersa Chat chiefbrody,

Look here for a Bersa family history. (click on the thumbprints for specific models)

Look here for model 383 information...the pictures are long gone but the narrative is still valuable.

Purchased several extra mags from Triple K

          www.triplek.com/product/bersa-383-da-380-acp-7-rd/

for considerably less than today's price, but have never had an issue with them.

The Triple K 383DA magazines did not work on my 383DA. I even took the gun to a gun show where a vendor had them and not one of them worked. As a matter of fact, I have bought them from Triple K, eBay, and Gunbroker and had to return them because they just won't fit in the magwell. They also are missing the tang on the follower which keeps the slide open after the last round is fired.

The 383's mag catch slot is towards the bottom of the magazine. So be careful when you purchase one.

Well, just another new guy looking for a magazine for a thunder Plus 15 rounder. I bought one from Impact Guns. They fit but won't catch the mag latch. Upon inspection, the slot cut is way lower than the mag catch. The mag I am looking for is where the mag catch is about half an inch below the mag follower. I found a 10 round Pro-Mag for a 383a that is very similar to where the slot cut is located. Too bad, it will be to loose when inserted in the gun. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The mag you bought may possibly be an after market mag & reviews for those have been real iffy. Condors Flight only handles genuine Bersa OEM mags. You should, however, furnish S/N because I believe Bersa made a change to the mags & I'm not sure if new ones are interchangeable with older pistols. Someone here should know.

Here's a link to our "sticky" about new & old style Plus mags & it refreshed my memory. I believe the difference is with the follower, not the lock-up notch.

Jab...Thanks for the photos. Just made me wishful. Well, I test fired the pistol this morning and it works as advertised with the wrong new mag. Cycled correctly and fired. All I had to do is hold the pistol "cup and saucer style" or Weaver hold to keep the wrong mag from dropping out. It did held the slide open after the last round. I am somewhat elated however, now it's back to being a $175 bucks paperweight on my desk. Still, I'll be on the look out for the correct magazine.
