Use your powder measure to load bird shot.

Here is a handy tool for loading shot into black powder smoothbores. You don't need a scale to weigh out your shot. Just take your powder grain measure and load the shot using it. It will be close using #7, #8 or #9 shot

The following is the guide for your shot weight

50 grain setting = 3/4 ounce of shot
60 grain setting = 7/8 ounce of shot
70 grain setting = 1 once of shot
    80 grain setting = 1 1/8 ounce of shot
    90 grain setting = 1 1/4 ounce of shot
    100 grain setting = 1 3/8 ounce of shot
    110 grain setting = 1 1/2 ounce of shot
    120 grain setting = 1 5/8 ounce of shot

Who told you this or did you figure out If I load my Ky rifle with a 120gr of # 7 can I then call it the Jury.

It's an old one, but I checked it out with #7.5 and it's close as you would need. I think your Ky long gun is rifled, it would lead up but it would work in a pinch for survival. If you had an old barrel sitting around you could drill it out to become a smooth bore without a big problem..I have the drill bit conversion chart for each caliber bore if you ever need it.

If Taurus thinks they have the Judge you defiantly have the jury.

        HUH?

        Keep in mind, I don't know much about reloading or shot. . . . . .

I'm confused. 7000 grains = 1 pound, so 1 ounce should be 437.5 grains. Is the powder grain measure device a volume measurement, so the shot weight is approximated by these particular volumes of a powder measuring device?

Up to this point, I've been able to get a great education here on BC, but now you guys have me saying. . . . HUH?

I know this can be confusing if you are not into black powder.

It's a volume of black powder measure and has nothing to do with weight in grains of the shot. This is just a reference chart if you pour shot into the powder volume measure you will get close to the weight in ounces of shot shown in the above chart.

The device was never meant to be used for this purpose, but the information is nice to know for us old smpkepole shooters.

OK, just as I thought when the math didn't work.
